Amanda Agee, Employment Services team lead, shared some of the many benefits that clients can receive by adding employment as part of their mental health treatment plan.
- Employment helps your mental health.
Employment Services, also known as NEC Works, is a program that helps individuals with mental health conditions, including substance abuse disorder, find and maintain employment. Integrating work into the recovery process can help you:
- Connect with others.
- Increase confidence.
- Improve symptoms.
- Reduce substance use.
- Enhance overall quality of life.
- The program is personalized.
Employment Services tailors the program to fit each client’s individual needs. With two different intakes that help your team get to know you and the jobs you might like, they take that information and combine it with past experiences and preferences to narrow down what might interest you and work well for you. Once you get started in a job, your team will work side-by-side with you to help you train and become successful in your new role.
- They coordinate with your care team.
If you or someone you know has a mental health condition, working with NEC Works to find a job that you enjoy can help give you a sense of purpose, structure and independence. Along with your mental health treatment plan, working can help to improve your overall mental health and create a sense of belonging. Employment Services will work alongside the rest of your treatment team to ensure that your employment goals and recovery plan align. Don’t be afraid to take the first step towards a better future!
- It’s easy to get started.
Employment Services works with clients to find the right job for them and walks alongside them as they adjust. This process helps to build the confidence and skills clients need to succeed.
