KENDALLVILLE, Ind. – Area stakeholders are needed to form new County Change Teams that will be focused on transforming local substance use care.
Northeastern Center was recently selected to lead the effort through the National Council for Mental Wellbeing’s Trauma-Informed, Recovery-Oriented System of Care Community Transformation Academy.
Trauma-Informed, Recovery-Oriented Systems of Care, also known as TI-ROSC, is a care model being implemented in communities throughout Indiana to provide comprehensive, effective, person-centered services. The system of care fosters community-wide support of health, wellness and long-term recovery.
Cory Headley, clinical services director at Northeastern Center, is leading the County Change Teams for DeKalb, LaGrange, Noble and Steuben counties. She has already participated in two state trainings and has recruited a handful of community partners who have committed to participating.
“Our next step is to form the County Change Teams that will create a vision for what we want substance use treatment to look like in our counties,” Headley said. “TI-ROSC is about meeting individuals where they are in their recovery journey and looking at all the circumstances that impact substance use recovery – housing, transportation, food insecurity, mental health care, hospitals, etc. So it’s important to have all the decision-makers and related services at the table.”
County Change Team members can include, but are not limited to:
-
Individuals in recovery
-
Community behavioral health providers
-
Medication-assisted treatment providers
-
Peer support professionals
-
First responders
-
Primary care providers
-
Social services providers
County Change Team members will assist in advocacy efforts, including creating a vision, creating action steps, assessing community needs, education/communication and other needs.
