In recognition of Men’s Health Month, Dan Sorrell, a case facilitator for Northeastern Center (NEC) Emergency Solutions, shared four helpful reminders about men’s mental health.
1. It’s OK to ask for help.
The month of June is recognized as Men’s Health Month. NEC wants men to know that focusing on your mental health is just as important as your physical health. It’s OK to not be OK when it comes to your mental health. Asking for help when you need it is normal, and you don’t need to do it all on your own.
2. Mental health is not gender-specific.
Men often put off taking care of their mental health. They may think it doesn’t affect them or that they can just deal with everything on their own and it will go away. But mental health is not gender-specific, and both men and women can struggle with mental health issues. It’s important to remember that seeking help is normal and OK, regardless of your gender.
3.Getting started is easier than you think.
It might seem daunting, but taking charge of your mental health is easier than you might think. You can visit our New Client page for helpful information on your first visit, or you can call your closest outpatient office and they can walk you through the process of starting care with NEC.
4.If you find yourself in crisis, we’re here for you.
If you’re at a point where you’re in crisis, don’t wait for an appointment. With 24/7 crisis care available at our Community Health and Outreach Center, there is always someone to call, someone to respond, and a safe place for help. Call our Emergency Solutions number at 1-800-790-0118 to talk to a real person. If you need in-person assistance, they will dispatch someone from our Mobile Crisis Team to assist you. Or, you can also walk in to our 24/7 crisis center, NEC Cares, located at 1752 Wesley Road in Auburn.
