KENDALLVILLE, Ind. – In recognition of Suicide of Awareness Month, Northeastern Center is hosting a free QPR training session Friday, Sept. 26, at the Community Learning Center in Kendallville.

QPR stands for Question, Persuade and Refer, which are the three steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Just as CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, QPR trains people to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade and refer someone to get help.

“Suicide is a complex and heartbreaking issue that touches individuals, families and entire communities,” said Dottie Fuentes, chief clinical officer, Northeastern Center. “Each one of us has the power to make a difference, and QPR is a tool we can use to recognize the signs of a suicide crisis and intervene. I encourage everyone to take this training and learn how they could help save lives.”

The training will be held from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26, in Multipurpose Room B at the Community Learning Center, 401 E. Diamond St., Kendallville. This session is free and open to any adults in the community, but registration is required. To register, visit bit.ly/NEC-QPR and fill out the simple, three-question form with your information.

Northeastern Center also offers free QPR training for groups, such as businesses, clubs and other organizations, throughout the year. To schedule a training session or learn more, email training@nec.org.
